Mobile Gas Identity Theft Prevention Program

Mobile Gas is committed to protecting the identity of every customer. We take great care and precautions in safe guarding your personal information when establishing service, requesting information about your account or making online account transactions.

In addition to our voluntary commitment to protect your privacy, Mobile Gas is also required by law to detect, prevent and mitigate identity theft. The following are some frequently asked questions regarding personal information protection and identity theft prevention:

Is Mobile Gas required to protect my personal information?

Yes. Mobile Gas is required by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) and Red Flag Rules to protect our customer’s personal information and to detect, prevent, and mitigate identity theft associated with that information.

Why does Mobile Gas have to collect personal information from me?

Mobile Gas uses certain personal information to help identify a customer and to make sure that all communications regarding your account and your personal information are restricted to authorized persons only.

What are some examples of the personal information that Mobile Gas may ask when I establish new service or request account information?

  • Name
  • Address
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Driver’s License Number (or Alternate Government Issued ID)
  • Employer or Taxpayer Identification Number (Commercial Customers only)
  • Lease
  • Proof of Service with Power or Water Utilities

Why does Mobile Gas request the last four digits of my social security number or tax identification number when I call customer service?

Mobile Gas uses the last four digits of your SSN to verify your identity before providing personal account information to the caller. If the SSN in our records is not accurate, or missing, a customer service representative will ask your permission to run an ID check thru Experian to verify your SSN. This will not be processed as a credit inquiry. Once verified, the SSN will be added to your account record. When you call again, you will only need to provide the last four digits of your SSN. Commercial customers will be asked to provide verification of a taxpayer identification number or social security number for establishing service and accessing account information.

How do Mobile Gas and Third Party Service Providers protect customer information online?

Customer information is protected from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure by use of encryption technology protocols such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.
