A little Aretha sure will make you feel like “A Natural Woman!”  How about an acoustic version of Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean?”  Or even a mashup of The Judds’, “Mama He’s Crazy” and “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan?  These national recording artists all made an appearance at Mobile Gas, at least vicariously.  On Wednesday, October 26th, Mobile Gas employees showed off their musical talents during a talent show to benefit the United Way of Southwest Alabama.  This was one of several week-long events to bring awareness about the organization and its services.  The other events included a one mile fitness walk, silent auction and a fall festival.  This year’s campaign centered on “The Spirit of Giving”.

“The talent”

The United Way of Southwest Alabama’s goal is to strengthen communities by focusing on uniting resources that support the building blocks for a better life: Education, Financial Stability, Health, and Essentials.  Our employees get involved with United Way for a number of reasons.  Aree Kirksey, meter reader supervisor, says that the United Way is the only organization that has made her laugh and cry simultaneously.  “What moved me the most was when I heard a story about a local child not having enough food to eat or clean clothes to wear.  That really tugged at my heart”, said Kirksey.  The United Way of Southwest Alabama has been providing aid to our community since 1926 and we look forward to a continued, successful partnership for many years to come.
