Spring Forward Sunday=Seasonal Safety Check

Posted March 8, 2016

Mobile Gas is ready to Spring forward, are you? Time change is in store for us on Sunday, March 13, 2016. As you make your rounds to clocks this weekend, we encourage all of our customers to make time for this very short safety checklist.

Change the clocks, change the batteries

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in place for your safety…but fresh batteries are needed to ensure that you and your family are safe year round. Safety experts recommend replacing¬† these batteries twice a year–once in March for the beginning of Daylight Savings and then again in November when it ends.

Energy savings tip: don’t discard the replaced batteries, they more than likely will sufficiently operate a children’s toy or other electronic device.¬† Be sure to squeeze every last drop of energy out of them before recycling!

Replace light bulbs

While you have that ladder out exchanging batteries,  double up on safety (and energy savings) by examining light bulbs and fixtures. Consider replacing conventional bulbs with energy-efficient fluorescent or LCD bulbs. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that replacing standard bulbs with more energy-efficient ones saves over $30 in electricity coasts over their lifetime.

Check the first-aid kit

Summer is on it’s way, along with warmer weather comes bumps, scratches and stings. Be sure to check the family first aid kit and replace any missing items.

Review your family emergency plan

If an emergency occurs be sure everyone in your household knows the plan of action and where to go. Update phone numbers, addresses and other contact information in all cell phones and post a paper copy with all emergency information in your household.
