Mobile Gas Receives American Gas Association Safety AwardPosted October 1, 2014
Mobile, Ala. – Mobile Gas, Sempra U.S. Gas & Power’s natural gas utility is southwest Alabama, recently received the American Gas Association’s (AGA) Accident Prevention Award. The national trade organization, which represents natural gas supply companies, recognized Mobile Gas for achieving a total DART (Days Away, Restricted or Transfer) incidence rate below the industry average for 2013.
The DART is based on injuries and illnesses that were severe enough to warrant “days away from work, job restrictions or job transfers.”
In 2013, Mobile Gas reported zero lost time away from work and only three employees, who received some type of injury, had job transfers or were put on restricted duty. According to the AGA’s 2013 Natural Gas Utility and Transmission Industry Occupational Injury and Illness Statistics, the industry average for DART incident rates is 1.96.
“It was an honor to receive this award, and all of our employees should be proud to know that it is a reflection of everyone’s efforts to continually elevate our safety culture,” said Chris Wiley, safety and training technical manager for Mobile Gas.
Mobile Gas has always made safety a top priority. Over the past couple years, the Safety and Compliance Management departments have updated online safety programs, held in-person training demonstrations, launched new safety campaigns and more to create a 24-hour safety culture, on and off the job. The AGA safety award is another indication that the efforts to keep everyone safe are paying off.
“We are proud of our continued focus and efforts to exceed our company goal of maintaining a low injury rate,” said Tim Bray, director of compliance management for Mobile Gas. “This latest achievement was made possible by everyone working as a team and putting safety first in every aspect of their job.”
Mobile Gas received the AGA award in the category of Medium-Small Local Distribution Companies.
The American Gas Association represents companies delivering natural gas to customers to help meet their energy needs. AGA members are committed to delivering natural gas safely, reliably, cost-effectively and in an environmentally responsible way.
